VERTICAL CAMPUS: IZMIR SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

INTERACTIVE SPLIT

Nowadays, although many universities are going horizontal, there is also a new trend of vertical campuses. This new strategy of universities for going upward rather than outward shows an increasing interaction of the academia with the city and the local urban community. Considering this interaction between academia and the community, the project is designed in a way that public oriented spaces are more accessible and recognizable. Another main point of project is that two blocks of the total mass create both public and semi-public open spaces for social interaction. These two blocks are designed as thin as possible to take advantage of sunlight and open up to the sea view. Additionally, these blocks connected each other with the bridges have open spaces at different points to create social interaction spaces.
