VERTICAL CAMPUS: IZMIR SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

LAYERS OF INTERACTION

Campus is the place where people interact with each other. The idea behind the vertical campus is to create various interaction spaces for the users of the building and the inhabitants of Alsancak. While interpreting the program the differentiation between public and private spaces was considered. The mass is cut in the horizontal direction, providing different layers starting from the ground level to the top levels where the design studios are settled. The gap between public and private spaces work as a major interaction area where the community can witness the campus life with the exhibition and outdoor jury spaces that allow public access. Upper levels where studios and educational spaces take place are connected by ramps that expose themselves behind the transparent facade. These circulation elements are binding the interaction spaces on each floor while changing its direction and its extensions. So that the interaction spaces change and provide different levels for the campus.
